Our History

KAYA Associates, Inc. was formed with a vision of creating a business that is employee driven and customer focused. Staying true to those two fundamental principles, our management team has led the sustained growth from our humble beginnings in 2003 with 4 employees and few financial resources to a 235-person company today. More importantly, the growth has been managed so that our systems, infrastructure, and physical footprint have kept up with our employees. Accounting systems have been upgraded 4 times since our inception; our computing power has grown from 4 laptops to over 100 workstations and a server farm with 24 servers; office locations have grown from a single sub-leased facility in Huntsville to 4 physical offices (Huntsville, AL; Lexington, KY; Charleston, SC; and Delta Junction, AK) and 8 other project offices/customer locations.


From our modest beginnings sub-letting 1,500 square feet from our predecessor firm, EDAW, we now occupy over 30,000 square feet of workspace between our corporate facilities in Huntsville to our operations in Kentucky, South Carolina, and Alaska.


Timeline

  • 2003

    KAYA was incorporated by John Prince through a management buyout of a portion of EDAW Inc.’s Huntsville operations.

    KAYA received Small Disadvantaged Business 8(a) status from the Small Business Association (SBA).

  • 2005

    KAYA added Environmental Planning (NEPA) capabilities through the hire of key senior planners with a strong depth of experience.

  • 2006

    KAYA won its first Full and Open competitive award with an IT services contract with Anniston Army Depot, Alabama.

    Revenue reached $15M.

  • 2007

    KAYA received a direct award from U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet Environmental Office for environmental support to Pacific area programs.

    AFLMA awarded KAYA a contract for Directorate of Information Management Support at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

  • 2008

    KAYA received a $48M contract for providing GIS implementation and support services throughout the Department of the Army.

    KAYA opened its fabrication facility in Charleston, SC to support Army ATC programs and Navy SPAWAR NavAids requirements.

  • 2009

    AMCOM’s Redstone Test Center selected KAYA, with its partner Bering Straits, to provide IT infrastructure and management.

    Revenue reached $19.5M.

  • 2010

    NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) selected KAYA to provide Engineering and Planning services for MSFC facilities.

    KAYA won the U.S. Navy SPAWAR/SYSCEN Atlantic Charleston 8(a) contract for fabrication.

    KAYA was a Finalist for the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Government Contracting Small Business of the Year.

    Volpe Labs awarded KAYA a $15M contract for air traffic control engineering and installation services in a full and open competition.

    KAYA, as part of a Joint Venture, received a 5-year, $100M contract for base operations and engineering services for Fort Greely Garrison and Missile Defense Agency.

  • 2011

    John Prince received SBA’s Small Businesspersons of the Year award.

    USASMDC/ARSTRAT awarded the ETOSS contract to KAYA, in a Joint Venture with Bering Straits Logistic Services, LLC.

  • 2012

    KAYA wins ID/IQ contract with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District for Performance Oriented Construction Activities.

    Revenue reached $25.8M.
